OMG! I was beginning to think they were all girls. WOW! Now that is a bombshell. I'm guessing you went by weight in IDing them.or did you know by markings?

Mr. John..

1. why didb't you let us in on it? You sure had plenty of ppl out there taking pictures! Hope a video will be posted. So far WQAD hasn't posted the one they broadcasted yet.

2. Why couldn't we watch while they were removed and replaced? Or have the TTV going so we could have watched for L and J circling.

3.. How were L and J during the procedure? That's all for now.

Mavis

I JUST SAW the video!! Below the pictures! THANK YOU!!

Chris

The only time I saw an eaglet removed from its nest it died immediately.

Katy J

Thanks for the information, Mr. John. I do enjoy updates on Star & Sky, I can only hope these three will fare as well.

Mavis

Katy...I'm with you...loved the comments on Star and Sky! I'm kind of surprised Sky headed North, too. He really seemed at home where he was. I gathered by her comments that they do not hang out with the Virginia juvies. Maybe they remember all too well the flying insects they were plagued with on the nest and decided to avoid them if they could.

Thank you for posting her comments, Mr. John. Was so excited to hear from her about them.

So, Apollo is a girl and Mercury is a male. May explain why we didn't have the bonking from Mercury that we were dreading and why Apollo was so aggressive. Apollo takes after her mom...she came out of her shell ready to establish her territory! Of course, Mercury takes after Justice! No wonder Mercury was so sweet! He took Apollo's bonks like a gentleman.

Chris

Here is a link to the Quad-City Times with a story on Apollo, Gemini, and Mercury. Also 10 pictures of the procedure.

RL ML

Just checked the replay and no sighting of L or J either on the nest or on the branch on TTV. Did I miss any sign of them? Good to see the kids back on the nest and starting to do a bit of wingersizing by one.

Katy J

Haven't seen Liberty and Justice either. Thought maybe they keep some distance for a while after the humans showed up.
They've been through this before, so they're probably not too far away.

RL ML

Just saw a video of parent returning.

Mavis

I've been looking for L and J since the cams came up...no sighting by me, either. All 3 are laying down. They are wet..but it's nice at the nest...58ยบ. The showers help keep them cool. I don't think any of they appreciated Apollo's birthday party!! They are hoping when they wake up that it will all have been just a big nightmare! My dogs dream...sometimes they 'run' in their sleep and even bark, so I guess eagles can dream, too.

Mavis

*...them appreciated...not they!

Mavis

I didn't see one, R L. I don't have replay on the iPad so it must have been a quick in and out. Glad you saw one coming back to the nest.

RL ML

I was gone for a bit for a program here and was able to find it on replay. It just sat on the right side of the nest and looked around. That is probably where they came up to get the eaglets. It was at about 1:45 CDT, I estimate, from the time on the replay. Just a short visit didn't go near the kids.

RL ML

Mavis, I put the videos on OT. They show up for me there and hope they do for others as well.

Mavis

RL...they will only show up for OT members. I'll look and see but don't think I can copy them.

RL ML

You can get them from the source that I did as it is given with the videos. Filmed by former posters here. I know that posts on OT cannot be shared, but they can be from the post that I got it from.

Mavis

R L...it showed, I think Justice, fly to the limb in front of the 6 o'clock position ...look around a minute or two then fly off. At least we know a parent returned

You can share from one FB page to another FB page...but most of the time you cannot share outside the FB program. This is one of those cases...I couldn't share it to twitter. Thanks,....and I tried.

Carol C

L or J sitting in the tree top. Aww! the kids looked so well behaved. All 3 just laying & watching mom or dad

John Riches

Mavis and others...The researchers went by what they believed was the age of each eaglet to identify which was Apollo, Gemini and Mercury. Some of that had to do with looking at how much of flight feathers had come in. Based on their age determination, Apollo is a female and weighed in at 4610 grams (10.16 pounds), Gemini was 3880 grams (8.55 pounds) and they now believe a male and Mercury was 3640 grams (8.02 pounds) and a male. Liberty and Justice were pretty mellow when the eaglets were removed. They were more excited and circling while they were put back in the nest.

Chris

Justice flying in.

RL ML

And all this time you have been calling them girls.

Katy J

Mr. John, Apollo was was the last one hatched. How is it he weighs more than the others?
Confused.

JC

Both Liberty and Justice on the roof top...
